Food for Thought:

Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week.

~Joseph Addison

Goodbye, Burnay!

vigan

Yesterday, I was upstairs when I heard a terrible sound… that of something shattering on the floor.  I quickly ran downstairs and saw my precious burnay pitcher–the one I bought from one of the oldest burnay potters in Vigan a million years ago–  broken into pieces. The culprit… Yuki, my playful kitten!

Oh well, that’s one of the (very few) disadvantages of living with cats.  I’m sure he will ‘mature’ soon enough. In the meantime, he will just have to stay out of the house until he can behave himself like a proper cat.  Good thing Hubby assures me that he can put everything back together again. *Crossing my fingers*

As for Yuki, I don’t think  he cares…

My Little Corner: Jazel Kristin’s Atelier

My good friend and soul sistah, multi-media artist Jazel Kristin,  has found her creative sanctuary  in Casa San Miguel,  Zambales where she is currently the resident artist. While here, she goes through a daily routine of creating, consuming and daydreaming.

In her words:

I am in my happy place, surrounded by nature and enveloped by its natural sound.

I soak it all in – everything in dolby surround.

The whisper of the wind, the falling of leaves, the crashing of waves…

I wake up early in the morning and start playing. I play with fire, I experiment with colors and textures, I do things that I’ve never done before.

I consume lovingly home-cooked meals, take my 30-minute-wordless-silence breaks, walk towards the beach and watch the sunset.

I went through the cleansing process again to bring me back to the moment where it all began. It’s like being in this state of pureness, where I go back to the basics, and take in things that I only need to survive. My mind is clear and everything I touch turns to gold.

Incidentally, Jazel will be opening her exhibit I Consume Therefore I Am tomorrow, January 12, 2013 at Casa San Miguel Zambales. Be sure to drop by if you’re around the area. Visit Jazel’s website here.

Seed Money: Sowing the Seeds of Love

seed-money-penny-roll-750
You gotta love this idea from Leafcutter Designs. Coined as “Seed Money” (pun intended 😉 ),  the precious little hand-illustrated and letterpress printed paper coins look like the real thing, but with something extra special– they are embedded with seeds!

But what exactly can you do with your Seed Money?  Leafcutter Designs has a few tips:

  • Secretly tuck them into medians, public parks, or your friend’s front yard.
  • Leave a few with your tip at a restaurant.
  • Place them in coin return slots to surprise strangers.
  • Playfully try to use them at your local coffee shop or bakery.
  • Leave them on sidewalks for people to stumble upon.
  • Give them as a unique gift or party favor.
  • Grow an entire backyard flower/food garden with the full set of coins.
  • Pass them out at your farmer’s market just for fun.
  • Send a roll to a politician with a letter expressing your opinion on agribusiness subsidies.
  • If you run a retail shop, hand over a few along with the real change.
  • Lock up a few rolls in a safety deposit box at your bank just in case Malthus was right. Or perhaps your porcelain piggy bank is more secure?

The coins are embedded with different types of organic seeds, too: the pennies with flower mix, nickles with hearty greens mix, dimes with herb mix and quarters with salad mix.

What an adorable idea!  I think I can use some of those quarters!

I know Christmas is over (for now, at least) but I’m still feeling the spirit. This home, in particular, makes me want to put up my decors again.
