How to make your own mosquito spray

Although the number of Dengue cases dropped in the last month, it’s always better to be on the safe side. Make sure you keep your yard clean, spray insecticide around  the house and eliminate potential breeding grounds for mosquitos (such as empty containers or flower pots)  to prevent water from accumulating in them, especially during the rainy season.

If you want a natural (and more fragrant) way of conquering mosquitos, here’s a recipe that you can make at home sans the chemicals.

Homemade  Mosquito Spray

In  a spray bottle, mix the following ingredients:

15 drops of Citronella essential oil (or 20 drops if you’re just using Citronella oil such as the one pictured above)

5  drops of lavender essential oil

5 drops of eucalyptus oil

distilled water  (Others recommend vodka, but I’d rather drink it. Haha.)

Just shake everything together to make sure the oils blend well.  Spray on your arms and legs.   You can also spray on the corners of your house and on your curtains.  Of course, the best way to protect yourself and your family from those nasty insects is to keep your home clean.

Keep safe everyone! Don’t let the bed bugs bite!

    1. I got the citronella oil from a hardware shop 🙂 I’m sure it’s sold in supermarkets as well. Yeah, you have to try it. It keeps the mosquitos away but it smells so good!

    1. Hi Rod! I bought the lavender oil in SM, the eucalyptus oil in Mercury Drug and the Citronella in ACE. Some specialty stores like Zen Zest also sell them. Hope this helps. 🙂
